Ahhh college rankings. Everyone loves to drool over the perceived top 10 ranking, but here at EDUsquared we don’t. Mainly because the metrics are COMPLETELY bogus due to there lack of financial return data.
The topic we tell parents they need to focus on and help their child understand is ROI. Return on Investment. That return can be judged both quantitatively and qualitatively.
What do we mean? Well, quantitatively means I have hard stats. I spent X and got Y in return. That was 10x, 20x, or 30x my investment. From a qualitative perspective, maybe the specific university’s degree gets you in doors you couldn’t have gotten through if you came from a different university. We however don’t like to focus too much on the qualitative component because it differs for everyone.
